"Now is that job in Shanghai or London?"
Today a Masters degree is a tick the box on any application form, so you need a quality degree with strong marks for a career.
Some 400,000 Business Masters degrees are awarded in the English speaking world annually, 200,000 in the USA and 35,000 in Australia.
Internationally over 30% of enrolled candidates never complete their degree, over 20% graduate with low scores employers reject an interview. That’s over 50% who waste two years of opportunities elsewhere and my estimate between $US40,000 and $US140,000 in total costs. Like all investments, you want the maximum payback.
My 18 years of experience teaching business Masters degrees across six universities in Australia tell me:
🔶 Half of all students enrol in a course unsuitable to their skills, ability, course structure or career suitability options
🔶 Additionally these students arrive unaware of the theory driven learning rather than their fact driven Bachelor degree
🔶 Most of these could secure a degree with good grades if they selected a course matching themself
🔶 Your innate suitability cannot be determined from an interview, the agent wants to sell you a degree, you need to be well informed to decide your degree for yourself
🔶 You require a structured academic psychologist based downloadable set of six tests across all your needed areas
🔶 With a recommendation based in hands on career opportunities to a partner University offering you a direct place
is a science-based assessment system to identify your innate career necessary skills and abilities to be developed in your Masters degree in Australia. You are unique, these decisions cannot be estimated in an interview.
I do not promise you an easy pathway, great careers demand a lot from you every day, I do provide you with a starting point calibrated personally to you and the opening tools for your progress and your success
Cognitive abilities are brain-based skills and mental processes needed to carry out tasks and relate to the mechanisms of how you learn rather than actual knowledge. This test enables us to determine your level of complex problem-solving skills within a standard range.
Beyond IQ scores is the assessment of how you behave and communicate with other people in different situations. Your success equation has a part which relates EQ to where and which career you undertake. There is no right or wrong answer – you have emotional abilities as much as you have cognitive abilities – this test will further match you to suitable degree areas.
Some people are detail orientated, always organised though sometimes unable to change to unexpected events. Others have a more relaxed approach. Again, there is no right or wrong answer – some areas have high levels of strict operating and learning requirements, others less – we will further match you to suitable degree types.
All of us have self-awareness about our strengths and weaknesses. This section has four areas – connection, influence, consideration and awareness – to determine how these come together in your personality.
Some roles are deeply skilled with narrow operating ranges (surgeons and airline pilots) versus roles with wide operating ranges with lower levels of knowledge in each area (university tutor and general manager). We can see on which side is your preference and skills.
We all have things we want to do, places to get to and careers which will bring us satisfaction and success. We also have limits, many self-imposed as to where we want to live, do we want marriage and a family ahead of a career, do we want to work more for the benefit of others more than for solely our own benefit. In this last section, you tell us how you see your future opportunity, which will narrow in on exactly which Masters will be for you.
The 6 assessments are provided as a single downloadable package. While you have 6 hours to complete all 6 assessments it typically takes between 2 to 3 hours. The cognitive and emotional intelligence assessments each have a specific time limit. After 6 hours, the package locks itself, emails your data and cannot be reopened.
You have two strengths right now – first your experience in your UG degree with subjects where you did very well and the subjects which most interested you. And some experience of work and early career progress. In thinking about starting a Masters degree, you are positioning yourself for a future leap in career progression – provided you select the right degree. In some cases the better option is to specialise further in the core areas of your UG degree (the specialist career pathway), the other option is the generalist career pathway where you add new skills to your portfolio. My experience is there are two factors – the specialist pathway is a narrow and highly skilled career where you are the expert in your field – the generalist pathway is where you can do most things very well and leave the final details when required to a specialist. Your decision can be informed in depth by our assessment tests as we look at you from six different angles, each pathway has clear indicators of success.
You have several years of hands-on experience, working in teams as well as on your own. You have now seen how some people stand out from the others as their insights into understanding and solving problems are more accurate and more likely to be successful. This is a combination of Cognitive Ability and having acquired skills number handling, decision analysis, empathy to group members and engaging communications. These people are ‘make it happen’ types and you need to join them by securing the best Masters degree to make this happen for you. My experience is that while on first examination there are dozens of possible degree options available, only a few, perhaps two or three are really suitable for you. Degrees at this level try to cover a wide ground for a range of students, your six tests areas will identify a much more focused set of requirements for you.
“My 16 years of teaching in multiple Masters degrees has shown me that just as we choose our clothes by size, colour, style and material, your Masters degree is the same. You need to decide on primary content, optional subjects, qualitative or quantitative format, location, teaching format and your qualifications so far, as the fit to your career and life aspirations.” “Too many students graduate with low marks which will never impress potential employers, but they hang in there to get the degree. It will never be as valuable as a degree suited just for them where they can shine.”
